Children of the Dawn skip their way to the top

Children of the Dawn, Ermelo Centre, believe in using sport as a tool for social development and that was evident when three of their own won in the recently held rope-skipping tournament.

Rope-skipping is a new sport proving very popular among the children as shown when they recently had a three day rope-skipping tournament judged by two representatives from the SA Gymnastics Association in Bushbuckridge.

The main objectives of the tournament was to engage, educate, motivate, and create a fun environment for the kids.

The rope-skipping programme consisted of two days’ training in elementary coaching and judging workshops run in all eight of the Children of the Dawn communities by the rope-skipping section of the SA Gymnastics.

The competition on the third day showed great displays of skills and perseverance, with manyparticipants displaying natural talent in rope-skipping.

The Ermelo Centre’s Thobile Mkhatshwa and Thembelihle Dludlu walked off with gold while Nomvula Mlotshwa won silver.
