Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Infrastructure and Technical Services (ITS), Ms Noliqhwa Nhlapho said the GSDM’s road maintenance programme is in full swing with the grading and re-gravelling of roads as well as pothole patching in the seven local municipalities under GSDM.

“Since the launch of our road maintenance programme, we have made visible progress and the addition of this fleet would further enhance our efforts in improving road infrastructure in our region, in particular the deeply rural areas,” said Ms Nhlapho.

“In the period between March and October 2017, the road maintenance programme has seen 1 100 km of gravel roads graded and re-gravelled. These roads include access roads to cemeteries, health facilities and sports fields.”

A further 8 900 square metres of potholes were patched across the district.

In conclusion, Ms Nhlapho commended the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport for its continued support of the district municipality’s road maintenance programme.
