Mr Sipho Bongwe is back as a councillor of Msukaligwa Municipality

Mr Sipho Bongwe was sworn in as councillor of Msukaligwa Municipality at the municipality’s fifth ordinary council meeting that took place on 28 March.

This comes as another councillor, Ms Link Mnisi, resigned as the African National Congress (ANC) proportional representative (PR) on 28 February.

The council resolved to approve Mr Bongwe to fill the existing vacancy and accepted the resignation of Ms Mnisi.

The Executive Mayor, Mr Joseph Mkhaliphi, also appointed Mr Bongwe as Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) responsible for Technical Services.

The Speaker, Ms Mapulana Nkosi, congratulated Mr Bongwe.

“I want to extend my congratulations to you today on your appointment as MMC,” Ms Nkosi said.

“I also appreciate the outstanding leadership you provided to council and residents of Msukaligwa in the past.”

Mr Bongwe brings along with him a vast local government experience as a former Executive Mayor of Msukaligwa.

This is also his second stint as MMC for Technical Services.

In terms of Schedule 1 of the Municipal Systems Act, 1998, the Municipal Manager is required to notify the Chief Electoral Officer of such resignation.

The Chief Electoral Officer declared the vacancy and the name on the top of the party list in consultation with the party.
