The Whip of Council at Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM), Mr Trevor Nkosi, responded to an invitation to the Grade 12 Motivation and Prayer Day at his former school, Cebisa Secondary School, recently where he delivered a motivational talk.
Feeling honoured for being invited, Mr Nkosi was close to tears as he shared his childhood experiences with the learners, some of his former teachers and the parents who were in attendance at Thuthukani Hall in Wesselton.
In his address to the Class of 2018, Mr Nkosi urged the learners to remain focused and sacrifice the remaining months to their studies.
“The last 12 years of education, has brought you here and it has come to the final lap where the choices you’ll make will influence your future in a particular way.
“The choice is yours on how you want your future to turn out,” said Mr Nkosi said.
He also warned the learners to be wary of the company they keep, sighting that bad friends could only lead them to self destruction.
Mr Nkosi used the opportunity to make good on a promise he made of improving the school last year.
He delivered three computers to the school to be used by the administration office.
He also handed out sanitary pads to 30 girls and dignitary packs to 10 needy learners which included a face cloth, bath soap, anti-perspirant, body lotion, tooth brush and tooth paste.
Mr Nkosi also pledged to raise R10 000 to be awarded to the top performing learner at the end of the term. Some of the money will be reserved to assist with tertiary registration fees next year.
Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMC’s) from GSDM, Ms Nhlengethwa, Ms Nhlapo, Ms Kubheka and local young business men also joined in the pledge.
The school hosts the prayer day twice a year and this year it was made possible by the Kohin Youth Coach and Ms Khosi Masina.
